Lake Garda Marathon March 2023

Our first Italian adventure didn’t disappoint, just stunning this low-key marathon with less than 1000 runners. The route is surprisingly flat considering the surrounding mountains. The boat taxi to start at Limone has to be one of the best pre-race journeys even if it was a bit chilly. With a flat fast course that works its way around the Northernmost edge of Lake Garda we were in for a treat. Unfortunately for me I had to pull out at the halfway point due to an injury but managed to console myself with some gelato whilst waiting for the sweeper bus. The trip wasn’t a write off as we hired electric bikes the following day and took in some of the sights. Lake Garda Marathon I will be back.

The LAP 47 miles -
Lake Windermere

A regular run on the family event calendar. I love the way they call this the lowland course, for someone from Oxfordshire 2500m of elevation is a good day in the hills. Over the years we have experienced all weathers with the mandatory kit list coming in handy more than once. The Lakes never fail to deliver, just stunning. This is such a well-run friendly event, with a cut off time of 24hrs it welcomes runners and walkers, there is something for everyone.

REVIEW

Pennie Barrier 50 May 2022

Taking on 50 miles around the Yorkshire Dales was always going to be tough. In short it’s the Yorkshire 3 peaks and another 20 miles, covering 2593m of elevation.
Recceing the route beforehand had not had the desired, confidence boosting effect. With a chilly start we were away, knowing what was to come helped in steading the pace. The scenery changes were dramatic from barren moors to stunning peak top views after a hard day running Malham cove was a sigh for sore eyes, being chased down in the last few miles meant it was hard work till the end.
One of the funniest memories was seeing a runner camping that night with their legs hanging out of what looked to be a child’s tent, after that run I’m sure he slept like a baby.

Nice Marathon Nov 2024

Following the success of Valencia, we decided to try Nice, and we weren’t disappointed, with amazing café culture to keep us entertained the pre-race nerves were kept at bay. The 200m walk from the hotel to the start line was relaxed and where we said our goodbyes and well wishes. With a small field of runners and a route that hugged the coastline of the med all the way to Cannes we were in for a treat. As the miles passed the temperature rose and what started as a PB attempt quickly turned into a day to enjoy the surroundings. The quick start meant still getting to the finish line ahead of the masses with enough time to enjoy a massage and a bit of Sunbathing on the beach. The local food was amazing and the next day we ventured the short train ride to Monaco to see how the other half live.
